It rained all day up until about about an hour before the 8PM show. It was damp and very windy, and yet that didn't stop thousands of fans from coming out to see Styx perform and the band certainly did not disappoint!
When friends tell me that they don't go to classic rock concerts anymore because "it isn't the original members," I tell them that many of the bands are as good or better than they ever were.
Styx is definitely one of those bands. Although featuring only one original member, James Young on guitar and vocals,
and occasional appearances by original bassist Chuck Panozzo, the band is loaded with talent.
Tommy Shaw (34 years) is one of the most underrated guitarists and vocalists,
and the band also features the amazing Todd Sucherman (25 years) on drums and vocals,
Lawrence Gowan (21 years) on keys and lead vocals,
and rounds out with Ricky Phillips (17 years) on bass and vocals.
The band did two sets, opening the show with "Gone Gone Gone" and finishing the 11 song first set with "Suite Madame Blue." After about a 25 minute intermission the band returned with "Miss America" and completed the 10 song set with "Come Sail Away." After a brief break the band returned to perform "Mr Roboto" and "Renegade" as encores.
The fans all stayed until the end of the show so the premiere concert event at the MidFlorida Credit Union Event Center was a huge success.
