Merle Travis was, a guitar player that influenced Chet Atkins and many others, a songwriter of classics such as “16 Tons” and “Dark as a Dungeon”, an actor (Sal Anderson in “From Here to Eternity”) and 15 other movies, and elder statesman of the country music industry in his later years, had his life celebrated at Nashville City Winery by some of the worlds great guitar players.
The
show was presented by the Grammy Museum, Bigsby, and WMOT Roots
Radio and emceed by Scott Goldman of the Grammy Museum. It featured
guitarists Steve Wariner CGP, John Knowles CGP, Pat Bergeson, Thom
Bresh, Doyle Dykes, Parker Hastings, Rory Hoffman, Rob Ickes and Trey
Hensley, John Jorgenson, Laurence Juber, Andy McKee, Jack Pearson,
and Eddie Pennington. Harry Stinson (Marty Stuart and his Fabulous
Superlatives) and Beth Hooker also sat in. In a town known for great guitarists this
show was a “must attend” event. Evidenced by the smiles not just
of the audience but especially those of the performers it was a huge
success. Merle was surely smiling down from heaven along with the
rest of us. Along with the photos there are several links to videos
