Gregg Allman will
always be one of the Giants of American Music. His passing leaves a
hole in our Music and our hearts. Yet in paying tribute to him by
performing his music we keep his memory alive. Recently the Midnight
Riders and the Channel Cats performed to a sold out show at
Nashville's 3rd and Lindsley in memoriam to Gregg.
Opening the show was
the Channel Cats with “Sweet Home Chicago”. Their blues/rock
style was well played and the closer “Trouble No More” had the
audience on their feet. In addition to the photos there is a video
clip of “Running on Empty”.
The next set featured
the Midnight Riders. Tim Horn was the first guest gracing the sound
with his harmonica skills. Then Olivia Jones, an up and coming
artist produced by Mac Gayden, provided vocals for “Blue Sky” and
“Southbound”. Helping close out the set was the appearance of
the legendary Jimmy Hall. His harmonica skills, vocals, and stage
energy put the set over the top.
The final set was all
Gregg Allman. The first guest was Chris Sartin whose vocals on
“please call Home” touched everyone there. Then Chuck Glass added
his keyboard skills and vocals to the mix. A final touch was Robert
Gately of the Channel Cats delivering the vocals on a beautiful
“Midnight Rider”. A video link is provided of this. It was a
great evening of music focused on the Music of Gregg Allman suitable
for publishing on the 4th of July. What could be more
Americana than Gregg.
