Jack Pearson's Birthday
Bash at 3rd and Lindsley this year was perhaps the best
ever. Jack loves to play (a waitress remarked “he would play all
night if we let him”) and nothing makes him happier when his
friends turn out to jam with him. This year's friends included Tommy
Emmanuel, Shaun Murphy, Moe Denham, Dave Duncan, Ruth Ann Conley
(“Sister Ruth”), Tim Gonzales, Lydia Bain as well as his regulars
Charles Treadway on the Hammond and Joshua Hunt on drums.
Backstage Jack was
picking with Tommy before the show when the first of many cakes was
presented to him. Set one was Jack and Tommy unplugged beginning
with a tribute to Gregg Allman, “Midnight Rider”. Jack had been
in the studio recently with Tommy and it showed in the way these two
guitar greats played together. Another special song was a
beautifully played “Tennessee Waltz. There are videos of these two
songs at the end of the article.
After the first set
Jack brought out the cake and made the ceremonial first cut. Other
cakes appeared, the words of Marie Antoinette came to mind..”Let
them eat Cake”. Even the photographers enjoyed a taste.
Then came set two,
Jack on electric guitar with Charles Treadway on the Hammond and
Joshua Hunt on drums. They were on fire, perhaps fueled by all the
cake. Some favorites of this set was when Jack led the audience in
“Everyday I have the Blues” and his “Just Believe”. A video
of the “Just Believe” can be found at the end of the article.
The third set was for
jamming! First up was Jack's musical mentor Moe Denham taking over
the Hammond, then adding Dave Duncan on guitar and Ruth Ann Conley on
vocals for a blistering cover of Jimi Hendrix's “Red House”. A
video of which may be found below.
Shaun Murphy then
replaced Ruth Ann on vocals, Charles Treadway took back the Hammond
and Tim Gonzales joined in on Harmonica for a cover of “It Takes a
Lot to Laugh, It takes a Train to Cry. This tour de force may also be

The last but definitely
not the least friend to join in was Lydia Bain on electric violin.
It's always special to hear Jack trade licks with other guitarists
but the electric violin playing by Lydia was totally over the top.

This place was amazing! Great food, it's smaller than others I guess but it is still a fair sized fun. The decor at that concert was amazing as every note of music reverberates off the beautiful walls. Everything about this venue is nothing less than 5 stars.
