Following the release of his first solo album Laura, Diego Garcia brought his warm, Latin tinged sound to the Meatpacking district in lower Manhattan. Far from his earlier incarnation as the lead singer from Elefant, Garcia has left his Bowie-esque phrasing behind for romantic crooning that combines elements of Julio Iglesias and Brian Ferry.
Playing to a large “date night” crowd, Garcia’s band featured lush string arrangements combining dual guitars and cello. Lyrics of love and devotion were sung with heart and fervor, silencing the full house in rapt attention. A talented composer and singer, Garcia’s solo premier brings promise of many great releases to come; and, judging by the reaction of the large number of females in the crowd, an ardent following.
